Frequently-Asked Questions

The clip won’t play.  What’s wrong?
First, be sure you are clicking on the clapboard icon ( one ) at the beginning of each news summary rather than the media player’s play button.

  1. If you click on the clapboard icon ( two ) at the beginning of a news summary and you see a black or green screen on the media player, your computer or network may not be properly configured to allow communication between our network and yours.

    Our network configuration document can be found here. Please provide this document to your local network administrator. It will help them troubleshoot any local network, firewall, or proxy server issues that may be keeping VMS QuickView video from playing on your desktop.

  1. If you see a red x (four) in the upper left area of the report where the media player should be, report this to your local network administrator and explain that a Windows Media Player should appear in the upper left corner of the page instead of the red x. They should be able to adjust your configuration to address this problem.
  1. If clicking on the clapboard icon (three) causes your browser to close, tell your local network administrator that you may need an “Active X add-in.” They should be able to adjust your configuration to address this problem.
  1. three If you see this message in the media player window, the clip has been temporarily sidetracked for technical reasons. In most cases the clip will be available within 15 minutes.

  1. If you see this message in the media player window, the clip is no longer viewable in the QuickView format. QuickView segments expire 21 days after original broadcast. However, in most cases, you may purchase high quality video and audio segments in a variety of formats for up to 60 days after broadcast.

 

How long is a QuickView segment available for viewing?
Segments are available for viewing/listening for 21 days after original broadcast. In most cases, you may purchase high quality video and audio segments in a variety of formats for up to 60 days after broadcast.

Why are VMS QuickView links missing from some news items?
QuickViews may be unavailable for technical reasons, including network delay, hardware failure, or poor picture or audio quality.

Do I need special equipment or software to use QuickView?
If your computer is a PC, you probably do not need any additional equipment or software.

If your computer is a Mac, talk to your local network administrator about installing Flip4Mac to allow VMS QuickView files to play on your computer.

For some users, whether PC or Mac, strict firewall rules may prohibit access to the video. To address network and firewall issues, provide this network configuration document to your local network administrator. Generally if you are able to access and view video streams from other sites such as YouTube, you should be able to view QuickView links.

Can I download QuickView clips to my local computer?
No. To purchase a permanent, high quality copy of any segment, contact your VMS account representative.
